Aika Furukawa

Aika Furukawa, born in 1982 in Aichi, Japan. She graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2008. She has worked in Brussels, Leipzig, and Tokyo.

Furukawa uses translucent linen canvases, creating immersive interplay with exhibition spaces for a multidimensional experience. Her primary ambition is to empower viewers, fostering heightened awareness and sensitivity.

Since 2007, Furukawa's focal motif has been the concept of 'Folds.' These organic creases, manifesting ubiquitously in daily life, evoke an acute awareness of life's impermanence. Often overlooked in habitual routines, folds persistently morph, highlighting the transient beauty of everyday existence. Her work aims to catch glimpses of impermanence within this beauty.

Artist works has evolved from exploring general themes of beauty to focusing specifically on the concept of 'Folds.' This shift reflects her deepening engagement with the transient and impermanent aspects of daily life.

Furukawa aims to empower viewers by fostering heightened awareness and sensitivity to the beauty and impermanence in everyday life. Her work creates a multidimensional experience that invites contemplation and introspection.
